Privacy Policy
Going Rate ("we", "us") is operated by Citrusworks. It helps local service businesses see what nearby businesses charge. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address and password when you create an account. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider, Neon, and are stored only in hashed form. We never see or store your password in plain text.
- What you scan. The website address you enter, and any city or ZIP you add. We use them to find your business and its neighbors.
- Usage counts. How many scans your account has run this month, so we can apply the free allowance.
- A browser identifier. A random ID kept in your browser's local storage, and your IP address, used only to apply limits and prevent abuse.
- A sign-in cookie. A secure, HttpOnly cookie that keeps you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Information about businesses
Scan results contain information that businesses publish themselves: names, locations, websites, menu prices, booking links, social media links, the presence of advertising tracking code on their websites, and photos they share publicly. We also show public data from OpenStreetMap, Esri ArcGIS Places, the US Census Bureau, and Groupon's public deal catalog. Every price links to the page it came from.
If you run a business and want information about it corrected or removed from Going Rate, contact us (see below) and we will act on it promptly.
How we use information
- To run scans and show reports.
- To keep you signed in and apply scan limits.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Services we rely on
We share only what each service needs to do its job:
- Vercel hosts the website and API.
- Neon stores accounts and handles sign-in.
- Upstash stores usage counts and a 24-hour cache of scan results.
- OpenRouter (AI models) and TypeSafe read public web pages to extract and double-check prices.
- Perplexity searches the public web for business pages.
- Esri, OpenStreetMap, the FCC and the US Census Bureau provide map, location and neighborhood data.
- Groupon / LivingSocial provides public deal information.
These services receive the business website or location being scanned and the public page text being analyzed, not your account details, except Neon (accounts) and Upstash (usage counts).
How long we keep it
- Scan results are cached for up to 24 hours and are not kept after that.
- Monthly usage counts are kept for the current month.
- Your account stays until you ask us to delete it.
Your choices
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your account and the information tied to it. Contact us and we will respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example California or the EU), you may have additional rights, and we will honor them.
Security
Connections are encrypted (HTTPS), sign-in cookies are secure and HttpOnly, and passwords are never stored in plain text. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Going Rate is a business tool and is not intended for anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above. Significant changes will be shown on the site.
